Our Origin Story
It started with a simple idea at Parramatta Library.
Lailei Huang founded Western Sydney Tech Innovators with a singular vision: to ensure the AI revolution didn't leave his community behind. What began as small weekend meetups in local libraries has grown into the region's largest tech collective.
Driven by the belief that tech should be accessible to everyone, Lailei has steered WSTI from a handful of enthusiasts to a community of over 3,600 members. His focus remains grassroots: real people, real problems, and real building.
"We didn't want to just talk about AI. We wanted to build it. Parramatta isn't just a geographical centre; it's becoming the intellectual heart of Sydney's tech future."

Do I need tech experience to join?
Absolutely not. We welcome everyone from absolute beginners to PhD researchers. Our workshops are designed to meet you where you are, with plenty of support for those just starting out.
How much does it cost?
WSTI is primarily a free community. Most of our meetups and intro workshops are free of charge. Some intensive bootcamps may have a small cost to cover venues and materials, but accessibility is our priority.
Where are the events held?
Most events take place in Parramatta, typically at the Western Sydney Startup Hub or local library spaces. We are expanding to Blacktown, Liverpool, and beyond.
Is this useful for business owners?
Yes. We have a dedicated track for founders and business owners focusing on how AI can automate tasks, improve customer experience, and drive growth without a massive technical team.
How can students benefit?
Students get hands-on experience that universities often can't provide. You'll build a portfolio of real AI projects, network with potential employers, and learn the latest tools used in industry today.
